Elm Electronics have improved their best OBD Interpreter, so now it's even better!
The new v1.2a IC adds 3 new CAN protocols, offers more that 70 AT Commands and almost 30 programmable parameters. In addition to the CAN (ISO 15765-4), SAE J1850 PWM, SAE J1850 VPW, ISO 9141-2 and ISO 14230-4 support, there is some support for J1939 CAN as well.
The ELM327 transparently converts OBDII data into standard ASCII characters (a bit like a dial-up modem), allowing trouble codes and operating parameters to be easily retrieved without the need for special software or hardware. No knowledge of data formatting, error checking, bus initiation etc. is needed either, as the ELM327 handles all of that for you. You don't even need to know what protocol your car 'speaks', as this IC automatically detects that for you.
In addition to the improved protocol support, you will also enjoy some of the other enhancements. For example, the new Adaptive Timing feature actually monitors the time it takes your vehicle to respond to queries, and continually adjusts the response timer to suit the current conditions. This feature is normally enabled, so you don't have to change your software or make any settings changes to enjoy the faster data transfer rates.
One other very significant improvement is with the serial (RS232) interface. It has been completely updated, and now offers baud rates of up to 500 Kbps! You can change rates temporarily with a software command, or make it more permanent with a Programmable Parameter.
